In short, NO, at least for the time being.

Even though the 2025 California Building Code (CBC) is technically active, it is critical to consult the California Architects Board’s CSE reference material page, accessible here: https://www.cab.ca.gov/cand/cse/index.shtml.

This page provides the official list of all current materials the exam is based on. If you check those links right now, they are still pointing specifically toward the 2022 CBC, not the 2025 version. This confirms that all current exam questions are still rooted in the 2022 CBC.

I have not seen any official announcement regarding when this documentation will be updated, so it is highly recommended that you keep a close eye on those links to confirm if and when the change occurs.

In any case, I do not anticipate that the update will bring major content changes, with the exception of the Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI) material, which now occupies its own dedicated code chapter. Look for more on those WUI changes in a future post.

The current core references for the CSE include:

  • The 2022 California Building Code (Title 24).
  • The 2010 Architects Practice Act.
  • The 2017 AIA Contract Documents.
